wearing shorts in the arctic

i sent my mom a text saying i was in the arctic. she didn’t believe me.

there’s this nature area called shirley’s bay. can you believe that these two photos were taken within 6 km?

of course instead of bussing there, we just ran there. it was 14 degrees that day, which is way above the melting point of water, but the ice was still solid.

here are some more photos from that day.

1. tree with half its leaves on. i guess half the tree missed the memo last fall¹. this photo was taken in march.
2. signs. unfortunately, we did not see any eels.
3. a close-up of the ice.
4. proof that the ice was strong enough to stand on but warm enough for you to make footprints.
